Gilbert-Ash Building Brighter Futures for Children in Madagascar
UK award-winning construction and fit-out contractor Gilbert-Ash have once again funded a 3-classroom school extension in Madagascar in partnership with the Adsum Foundation.
Prior to this Atsimombohitra Primary School was over-crowded with just 2 classrooms for 6 teachers and 346 pupils.
The inauguration of the extension was a cause for celebration for the entire community.
Not only will the school at Atsimombohitra provide local children with the opportunity to obtain a decent education, it will also provide sanitation facilities – something which only 6% of the rural population of Madagascar have access to. Providing such facilities should decrease the incidence of illness and diarrhoea, hence improving the children’s attendance at school.
The inauguration was well attended by members of the community and by local dignitaries, including the Mayor, a representative of the Regional Director of National Education, a former Member of Parliament, the Village Head and Elders. The dignitaries were united in praise and thanks for Gilbert-Ash's contributions which will transform the community.
